Student Work - Blog Watch

Friday, February 20th, 2009

I’ve been having a quick nosey through some of your blogs, and I was pleased to see some of you are keeping them up to date.
I understand that you have been asked to update them for your professional development module, and I’ll be looking forward to finding out how you day trip’s went and what you thought about guest speakers.

Dean has some day-trip photos on his blog:

Remember you’re visibility when you are posting online, students, friends, lecturers, parents, prospective employers, and complete randomer’s may stumble across content you have published. When we set up our Wordpress blogs, it was recommended you hide them from search engines. Also, some students have chosen not to use their full name in their blog heading. Please let me know if you have any questions about modifying these setting in your blog, or any other questions about blog visibility.

Blog Publishing Tips

Prospective employers will make a judgement of they ever happen across content you publish: set a tone in your blog that you would be comfortable with them viewing (It doesn’t have to be formal, in fact many successful Blog’s convert the author’s unique personality).

Avoid negative references about third parties, this could hurt someone’s feelings plus there are legal implications (critiquing work is a different matter, you can offer an informed opinion without getting personal). Keep in mind other people’s privacy when publishing a post, photo’s or video.

In terms of copywright, reference any work or content  that has not originated from you.

Think of a blog as one cog in a complete online profile – Twitter, Flickr, You Tube etc. Online applications can serve you in a professional manner, increasing your employability, highlighting your creativity, unique talents and general cop-on. It’s great to see Robert and Monika integrating this idea in their Blogs, where they are is using it as an online portfolio showcasing their talents:
